Spring cleaning

2 May

Happy spring all! Yes, it’s been a minute since I wrote my last post, but once again, my dear husband has been getting on my case about writing something. He says that I am letting my readers down. I don’t know about that, but I am working from home today and I’m bored so I thought it would be a perfect time to conjure up a new post!

Things have been going well for us recently. We had been going to dog training and Nixon has done really well. It’s as much about training us humans as it is the dog. Actually, I feel like it might be harder to train the people! But Nixon I have been doing a lot better and feeling more confident and in control when we go on walks. We have also switched to a pinch collar (for walks only) and it has made a world of difference. Pretty sure if someone was pinching me any time I did something wrong I would stop too. I initially thought the pinch collar was a little inhumane, but I’ve done some reading on it and many dog trainers believe that a pinch collar is actually less harmful to a dog’s throat/neck than a choke collar. We don’t use the choke collar at all anymore.

In addition to dog training, we planted seeds for our garden. By we I mean Noah and I just take pictures of the sprouts every day. We planted radishes, carrots, lettuce, spinach, watermelon, canteloupe, onions and sage. Things are definitely starting to pop out of the ground but it will still be a while before we have anything to eat. It’s exciting to watch them grow though! I have been taking a picture of the planters every day to track their growth.

Here’s what it looks like right now…

In other news, I just got back on Twitter. I’m still new to it so I’m learning the ropes but I’m liking it as of yet. If you’d like to follow me (read: I’m begging you to follow me) you can find me there as Clareberrys.

Lastly, we got our tax return check which means that soon we will be booking our vacation for December of this year – I can’t wait to write about it when we finally do! So, what’s been going on with you guys? I’d love to hear how you have been enjoying this wonderful spring so far!

New camera

24 Jan

Tonight I got a new camera!! I’ve needed one since over 5 months ago when I lost our last camera. That tends to happen too often. With my recent bonus, I decided to buy a new camera. I wish that I had enough to buy a DSLR like this one…

But that will have to wait for a while. I’m pretty happy with the point and shoot we found for only $129.99 at Best Buy. The Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS. It takes a good picture, is small but not too small and has a rechargable battery. I can’t wait to use it for real!

Google Docs – To the rescue

20 Jan

Recently I’ve been realizing how behind the curve I am when it comes to the interwebz and all things related. Blogs have been around for a while now and I’ve just really gotten into them in the past few months. I started out reading blogs how any person would…by actually going to the blog’s website. This was such a pain for me because I hated having so many bookmarks on my computer and then I couldn’t read so many blogs while at work. (Stupid Websense – you are not my friend!) Then I caught on to a fun little thing called Google Reader. YAY! I could finally slack off at work and still have it look like I wasn’t browsing the internet. Seriously, genius Google, just genius!

Today I realized how even more dumb slow I am when it comes to the interwebz. I just discovered Google Docs. Are you kidding me? I’ve been using gmail for how many years now and I just discovered Google Docs!?! My wife is tarded, she’s a pilot. Anyways, yup, today is when it happened. I knew it was there but really never understood the point of it or what it could be used for. Then I started writing a blog post in Microsoft Word but I never use my work computer at home so I always have to email myself the documents I am working on. Enter, Google Docs! I can finally blog at work!! I will be able to write [almost] entire blog posts while at work and just fill in the extras (like pictures) later. Because I needed another time waster.

Thanks Google, you are always there to entertain me. I am currently gchatting, emailing, blogging and keeping up with my Reader all at the same time. Technology is wonderful!

Happy Hump Day!

20 Jan

Wednesdays that are almost 50 degrees out and SUNNY! Wednesdays are nice because it means that the week is half over…and the weekend is fast approaching! I actually feel a little weird making weekend plans before Wednesday – it feels too soon. But Wednesday comes around and all of a sudden the rest of the week is scheduled with places to go and people to see. Tomorrow night we will be participating in DC and Virginia’s Restauarant Week by going to dinner at The Palm in Tyson’s Corner with our friends S & M (hehe). S & M are getting married over Memorial Day weekend this year but we haven’t been out with them since before we got married!! That’s insane! I’m really excited because we will get a 3 course meal for only $35.11 per person! That’s a great deal if you ask me.

Friday, the 21st, is our 5year5month. Oh, what’s that? You don’t know what 5year5month is? Well it is our 5 year dating anniversary on the same day it is our 5 month married month-aversary. We (I) think that’s pretty cool!! I don’t think we’ll do anything though because we are also going out to dinner with Noah and his family on Saturday at Cava Mezze on Capitol Hill. Who knows, maybe we’ll do a little something for ourselves.

As for Saturday during the day and Sunday…well it will probably be your typical weekend activities. Running errands somewhere, taking the dog for a nice long walk (if it doesn’t snow), cleaning up the house a little, and just lounging around.

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Day 30 – A dream for the future

16 Dec

The biggest dream in my mind right now is for Noah and I to buy a house. Yes, of course I have the dream of going back to school and getting a higher degree or having a family, but the thing that I think about a lot is us being able to buy a house. We have recently moved in to a single family home and we love it! We love having a good amount of land and feeling like we have more privacy. I love the old growth trees in our front yard and the feel of the neighborhood that we live in.

Over the next one to two years we are going to save as much as we can to be able to buy a house. Once we own a house we will definitely put our own touches into it and really make it ours. I think that’s what I’m looking forward to the most.

Well, the 30 days since I started this (it’s actually been more) are over! I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little bit about me throughout that time. Now it’s time to let the real blogging begin!

Day 29 – hopes, dreams and plans for the next year

16 Dec

My hopes for the next year are:

  • that Noah and I have a happy and healthy first year of marriage
  • that my soon to be nephew or niece and other soon to be nephew are born healthy and that their moms are healthy too
  • that Noah is able to find a job that he truly enjoys

My dreams for the next year are:

  • to continue to save money and hopefully be at a good point to start planning to buy a house
  • to take a vacation to either California or Europe
  • to get the drive and motivation to go back to school and just do it

My plans for the next year

  • to go to 4 weddings!
  • to go to Georgia for our one year anniversary and eat the top tier of our cake
  • to tend to the garden in our backyard and make it my own
  • to get in better shape and continue to make healthy dinners in our crockpot as much as possible!

What are your hopes, dreams and plans?

Day 28 – What’s in your purse?

16 Dec

I’m sorry! I am a bad blogger. This is exactly why I did the 30 day blog journal – so that I would have to post every day! Well, I failed on that one! But that’s okay because I was kind of getting tired of the 30 day blog journal and I think that’s why I took a break. That and the fact that we were moving last week and then we both had the flu for 4 days!!

So tonight I will sit down and finish my final 3 posts of the blog journal…and then I’ll start the real blogging that I’ve wanted to do!!

My handbag is always a mess. Every once in a while I clean it out but let’s just say tonight is not that once in a while!

The following items can currently be found in my purse:

  • my bright yellow wallet from New York and Company
  • a CD of our wedding photos
  • winter gloves
  • a stack of return address labels (that are no longer usable!)
  • trident layers gum – strawberry flavored
  • a phone charger
  • iPod touch and headphones
  • sunglasses
  • contacts – just in case
  • glasses case

Day 27 – Your Worst Habit

10 Dec

Cracking My Knuckles. I remember when I started cracking them in 4th grade and I’ve been cracking them ever since! But not only do I crack my fingers, I crack my toes, my elbows, my neck, my back….basically anything that can crack I do crack!

Others may get annoyed with it but to me it feels wonderful!

Day 26 – Your Week in Great Detail

10 Dec

This week has not been too exciting. I almost wish I was writing this at the end of next week because I have much more going on next week than I did in this one! Monday I went to work and was almost 2 hours late. I woke up 5 minutes before I was supposed to leave for work so that started me out on the wrong foot. Then, when I was already half way to work, I realized I forgot my laptop at home – so I had to turn around and go all the way back home in the horrible traffic. Monday after work we went to our old house to gather more things to move over. When we got back we spent time unpacking, organizing and making the house our home. Tuesday night we went to the old house to help my friend and coworker Stephanie and her husband move our old couch into their mini-van. I was sad to see that couch go! We’ve had 2+ years of memories with that couch! Yesterday I worked from home and Noah stayed home sick. I was sick yesterday as well but since I didn’t have to go into the office I just decided not to use sick time and actually did work. I knew I would call out sick today and I did. I called my boss at 7:15 this morning and ended up sleeping until 1:30 in the afternoon! I am SO bored!!! About an hour ago we went to our old house to shut off the lights and check the mail and then went to 7-11 to rent a move from Redbox. Really I just needed to get out of the house since I hadn’t been out of the house since Tuesday! I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll go to work tomorrow. I’m feeling a lot better than I was this morning but I’m definitely still sick. No more fever though I don’t think. It might be a good idea for me to just stay home and rest but I’ll see how I feel in the morning. Now I’m going to watch the movie “Leaves of Grass” with Edward Norton and then go to sleep a little later.

I swear I normally have a life!!!!!!!!

Day 25 – Your Day in Great Detail

8 Dec

Well today is not a very exciting day to report on since not only did I work from home today, but I also have the flu! Here it goes though…

7:10 – woke up, reluctantly

7:25 – rolled out of bed

7:30 – signed onto work

7:30-12:00 – worked and watched How I Met Your Mother

12:00-1:00 – rested on the couch, ate some chicken noodle soup, drank some gingerale, watched more HIMYM

1:00-4:00 – worked some more with HIMYM then Arrested Development in the background

4:00 – took a shower

4:30 – hung up the 2nd bathroom shower curtain, put away some of the things that we brought from the other house

4:30 – 6:30 – watching Reign Over Me with Noah

For the rest of the night we will probably watch another movie, eat something (Lobster Rangoon maybe?) and drink some tea. Then I’ll go to bed. How boring of a day!
