Date Night: the best dinner ever

22 Feb

Last night, my husband did an AWESOME job. Like, whoa! I decided a while ago that we would celebrate our 6 month-aversary instead of doing anything for Valentine’s day this year. So Noah took it upon himself to choose a restaurant to take me to. I bugged him non-stop about where we were going. I would try to trick him into telling me. Like last night when I asked him while he had already fallen asleep from taking Nyquil… Anyways, Noah chose a French restaurant in Falls Churh called 2941.

It was incredible.

The first thing we ate was some delicious bread – french baguette, cranberry nut bread and something with chocolate that apparently wasn’t chocolate-y (says Noah). Then they brought out a surprise course – a salmon puff. It was delicious.

Sorry for the crappy phone picture! I forgot to charge my camera!!

We ordered the hamachi sashimi with mango crudo and mint chiffonade as an appetizer. This was the only thing we weren’t fans of. It wasn’t because they tasted bad, it was because of a texture issue. The first bite I had was really good, but that was about all I could handle. But if you like squishy things, then you would like this!

Then our main course came out. I had the ginger steamed sea bass over scallion fried rice, lobster broth, shiitake mushrooms, cardamom coconut oil. Noah had the pancetta wrapped venison loin with foie gras, toasted wild rice, chestnut, juniper berry jus. (I had to copy and paste that from their menu!!)

Seriously, YUM.

Also very YUM. (says Noah)

After our main courses, we of course had to have dessert. Noah had the pineapple upside down cake which he says was delicious. I had the chocolate financier with clementines, macadamia nuts and coffee ice cream. Um, there are no words.

It looks right side up to me…

I don’t know what “Financier” means, but I like it!

At this point, I think we were in heaven. We thought that was the end of it but then they brought us our 2nd surprise dish of the night! Petit fours!!We had a cinnamon chocolate (the red things), marshmallow puff and lemon shortbread with lemon curd.

This was my favorite restaurant that we’ve been to in a long time. The space was beautiful too. We talked about how cool it would be to have a wedding there -but also really expensive I imagine. I am so happy that Noah took me here! He said up until yesterday he had 6 reservations pending. Happy 6 month-aversary babe! I love you!

Date Night: Argia’s

16 Nov

Date night is always something that can be very fun (and necessary) but can also be a little stressful if you have to spend a lot of time choosing a place to go. So many factors play into the place of choice – amount of money you want to spend, time at hand, the mood you are in, etc. Hopefully the places featured in “Date Night” will help you narrow it down!

Tonight I am featuring Argia’s – a great hole in the wall Italian restaurant located in the heart of Falls Church, Virginia. My husband just took me on a date here this past Saturday and I have to say it was WONDERFUL. It was crowded when we first got there (around 7:00) but they had room for us at the bar so we enjoyed a glass of Riesling before our table was ready. The wait time was only about 15 minutes even though they said it could be up to 30 – awesomeness! The glasses of wine were a little pricey ($17.50 for 2) but they were well worth it.

Dinner was fantastic, filling and hit the spot. They had enough on the menu for everyone but not too much where you felt overwhelmed with choices. I had the gnocchi and my husband had the canneloni – both were very delicious! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was just right – mood lighting, the buzz of a crowd and soft music for the perfect ambiance.

This will definitely be a go to spot for future nights out!
