I hate February.

9 Feb

Seriously, February sucks. Sure, it’s the “love month” because of Valentine’s Day and everything, but I don’t think it has anything else going for it. Let me tell you the reasons why February sucks…

  • Valentine’s Day – sure, it’s a great day to pretend to be “romantic” but in all reality it’s probably the most depressing holiday of the year. So much disappointment is to experience on this day. Singles and couples alike will feel let down at one point or another. And I’m pretty sure it’s just a day of bragging by those whose husbands/fiances/boyfriends/girlfriends sent flowers to the office!
  • President’s Day – my company took this day away from us and is basically requiring we come into work….so there goes that one good thing!
  • It’s freakin cold – who likes being cold? I have yet to figure this out. I would much prefer to be in hot hot heat than an arctic tundra. And if it’s going to be so cold, it could at least snow so that we can work from home, but we live in Virginia so it rarely snows. (Damn you, Snowpacalypse for spoiling us last winter!)
  • Spring is still an entire month away – this month is truly the “dead of winter” in my eyes…December is filled up with Holidays and January has a fresh feeling to it, but February just feels lonesome and boring – I can’t wait another 6 weeks til spring!
  • It’s short – which seems like a good thing, but then you realize it’s only February 9th and you have 21 more days to go! 21 days!!!
  • The days are still shorter – yes, the sun has been coming up earlier and staying up longer, but it still gets dark ridiculously early and it’s not light out when I get up!

Okay, rant over. But really, March cannot come soon enough!!!  And for some visual stimulation (and a way to remind ourselves of spring!)

Snow, thank you.

26 Jan

This is the image that pops up when I first open up weather.com. The title underneath this picture says “D.C, Baltimore may get hit hard”. I REALLY hope so. The DC area weather folks have been 100% wrong recently and it is definitely getting on my nerves. Every time they announce some sort of winter watch or warning, I get my hopes up that I will not have to go into the office the next day. Then every time I think it’s going to snow/sleet/ice I wake up to call our Weather Hotline only to find out that not only is there no delay, but it didn’t even precipitate at all the night before! It is toying with my emotions! But this time just might be different. Apparently we are supposed to get a whopping 5 inches of snow – this is definitely enough to get us out of work for a day in the DC area. Even 3 inches would probably suffice. All I want this winter is one good snow storm to get me out of work!

That isn’t too much to ask for, right? 😦

If you’re sick, stay home.

26 Jan

This is just a little rant from the office. If you are sick – STAY HOME! No one wants to hear the person next to them hacking and coughing and sniffling and blowing all day long. The cough is what especially gets to me. I can’t deal with it! This is exactly what sick time is for. I don’t care if you feel well enough to come into the office, I care whether or not you are spreading your nasty sick germs to me! I get sick pretty easily (always have) so I’m just remembering to load up on my vitamins (I take a prenatal vitamin & a vitamin D supplement – no, I’m not pregnant or trying to conceive!!) and drinking a lot of fluids. Oh and of course washing my hands like clockwork.

So as much as we all like to pretend we can handle things, even the common cold, as a courtesy to all others, please just take a sick day when you are germy and gross!

SNOW!

16 Dec

The other day I had heard that we could potentially get some snow today. We haven’t had any snow yet here in NoVA (except for a light dusting last week) so the talk of today’s potential storm was made to be a big deal. This morning I went to work and heard that there was a Winter Weather Advisory for our area. However, I knew it was only going to be 1-2 inches worth so I didn’t get my hopes up about work getting canceled. Well, the snow started around 9:30 AM and didn’t stop. It was accumulating a little but not that much so I expected to have to stay at work til the normal time. I even bet my coworker 15 push ups that we wouldn’t get out early!

At 11:50 my coworker and I decided to go to Panera. We always get hungry very early on in the day so we were ready to eat by that time! Right as I was cleaning the snow off my car, one of the managers came out to the parking lot to tell us they were about to dismiss us for the day. We immediately went back inside and packed up as quickly as we could – we were going home early!!! Driving home was a lot easier in my new car (2003 Nissan Murano) than it was in my old car (2005 Ford Focus) but the roads were TERRIBLE. 66 east was not plowed well at all. It took me over an hour on this stretch of my drive! 495 was not bad at all – it seemed like it had only rained! And then I got into our neighborhood and it wasn’t plowed even a little! I had to work from home until 4:00 but it was definitely an awesome surprise to get out that early!!!

Here are some pictures of our house in the snow….
