Day 16 – A song that makes you cry

30 Nov

While it is often that I cry from movies, TV shows and even sentimental commercials – I rarely cry from hearing a song. However, the one song I can think of that makes me choke up every time I hear it is “Travelin’ Soldier” by the Dixie Chicks. It is so sad and so beautiful!!

Day 15 – Your Dream House

28 Nov

After watching House Hunters on HGTV many times I have seen my fair share of incredible and luxurious homes. Many of them appeal to me for the same reasons they appeal to others – nice finishes, good locations, beautiful views, lots of space, uniqueness and character – but I would not call any of them my “dream” home. That’s because I have known about my dream home for 5 years now. I visited for the first time in the winter of 2005 and ever since then I fell in love.

Unfortunately, my dream home can never be mine, but it can be one I visit every so often….it’s Fallingwater! If you’ve never heard of Fallingwater go to their website – http://www.fallingwater.org/– and explore what it’s all about. If you’ve never been – GO! Plan a trip right now. Seriously it is the most amazing place I have ever been to. There is something about the house being surrounded by nature that makes you immediately feel like you’re home. The house isn’t new or up to date with stainless steel appliances but it is beautiful, natural, charming and peaceful. My favorite part about visiting Fallingwater is the rush of the water you hear from every part of the house. It truly is something that is indescribable – you just need to see it for yourself (in person)!

Have a look….

Day 14 – A nonfiction book

28 Nov

Sorry for the second post-skip of the week! I was occupied yesterday because Noah and I were driving from Atlanta to Virginia in a 26 foot moving truck! It was quite the adventure that my body is now paying for! The soreness is overwhelming – so I guess it’s a good thing that I have all of today to sit around and do nothing!

Today’s post is a nonfiction book that I’ve read. I don’t read nonfiction as much as fiction, but a book is a book nonetheless! Some of my favorite books have been nonfiction! The book I’ve chosen to share with you is extremely captivating, hilarious and a little sad too. It was made into a movie, but I was not impressed with it. Don’t see the movie….read the book! One of the most memorable books that I’ve read….

Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs

Day 13 – A fictional book

26 Nov

My favorite recent read that is a fictional book is “Something Blue” by Emily Giffin. I read this on our honeymoon flights and while sitting poolside and finished it very quickly. It is the follow up book to “Something Borrowed” which was another great read. Emily Giffin has written several other books but I have yet to read them. Something Borrowed and Something Blue are great easy beach reads and will keep you engaged until the very end!

Day 12 – something you’re OCD about

26 Nov

Umm….a lot of things. So I’ll try to narrow it down to a few just so I don’t bore you…or so you don’t think I’m crazy! (I am though.)

1) Things being closed – drawers, doors, cabinets, closets, shower curtains …..they need to be closed. They should only be opened when retrieving something, putting something away or stepping into or out of the shower. When they are not in use they should be closed. It bothers me just thinking about these thing s being open!

2) Blankets being folded – I hate seeing a blanket after it’s been used all balled up and thrown into a corner of the couch. It makes me uneasy. Once that blanket is folded it’s like immediate calm in my mind.

3) Things being in the correct place in the kitchen (last one, I promise) – Ok so this one might be a little crazy. All plates that are the same need to be together and not stacked with other mismatched plates, same goes for anything that has several of the same thing. This even goes as far as small spoons stay with other small spoons and big ones with big ones. You get my drift.

Yup, I’ll admit it I’m slightly neurotic. But that’s just a cute quirk right?

Day 11 – A recent photo of you

26 Nov

I know I’m a day late for this one, but to be fair we didn’t get to Georgia until 3 AM last night so I think that’s a pretty good excuse! Today’s post is supposed to be a recent photo taken of me. Ugh. The best recent pictures I have are all from our wedding, but I don’t want to use one because I know I will be posting plenty of wedding pictures here over time (I might even do a recap) so I’ve decided to go with something else.

This picture is of myself (bottom left) and my 3 best friends at my friend Kate’s 25th birthday party. I love this picture because we all look hot(!) and it was a really good night! This was taken 2 months ago!

On the road again

24 Nov

We are on our way down to Lake Oconee for Thanksgiving weekend and Im writing this from a phone!! I still have to post for day 11 of the 30 day blog journal but it will have to wait until later, or possibly even tomorrow. Weve only been on the road for 2 hours but it feels like 8! Ok back to listening to Harry Potter on tape (yes Nancy
Im actually paying attention AND enjoying it!)

Safe travels everyone!

It’s official – we’re moving!!!

24 Nov

There aren’t enough exclamation points to convey how excited I am about this move!! We signed the lease tonight after a month of looking for a place to live. The house we are moving to was the very first house that we looked at. When we saw it that first time we had a really good feeling about it and everything about the house fit our needs and wants. The only problem was that we had told ourselves we wouldn’t jump into the first place that we loved. We stayed true to our word and looked at 6 other places. They all had their ups and downs – one even had a swimming pool – but none of them lived up to the first house that we held closely to our hearts. We couldn’t stop thinking about it even when we tried and all we talked about was that house. We even started talking about where Noah would store his tools!!

A couple weeks went by and we realized that the first house was OUR house and we wanted it, badly. So when we took a second look at craigslist to pull up the landlord’s phone number we experienced a rude awakening in finding that the house posting was no longer there! We were shocked and couldn’t believe it had already been rented out after just 2 weeks! We didn’t want to believe it and needed to confirm the harsh reality so we decided to call the landlord. Unfortunately for us we had switched phones just a few days before and didn’t have our call logs anymore! Noah suggested that I look in our phone records to find the number. I couldn’t remember exactly what day or time we called her so I began calling every random 703 number on the list. When I finally reached a nondescript answering machine I decided to leave a [somewhat desperate] message. A few days later I received a phone call from the landlord saying that her previous tenant forwarded her my voice mail. I guess I got lucky that the tenant was a good person!

We took a second look at the house and the second viewing confirmed exactly what we thought – we wanted THIS house. It had 3 bedrooms, a galley kitchen with plenty of storage space, a huge master bedroom with an actual bathroom, wood floors throughout and our favorite part – a HUGE backyard! It is also walking distance to a few things – Ledo’s Pizza, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s…to name a few. AND it is even closer to Rt. 66 than we are now! Almost two weeks after our second walk through we finally signed our lease! We will begin to move in on December 1st but will still have our current place until the 31st. It will be nice to be obligated to moving for an entire weekend but we will probably try to get into the new place ASAP. I will be sure to post pictures!

Falls Church here we come!:-D

Day 10 – A photo of you from over 10 years ago

23 Nov

I don’t have too many pictures of myself from when I was younger on my computer, but I do have a few from when Noah put together our rehearsal dinner slideshow. Here’s one of the best ones I found…

Things I love – Pumpkin Beer

23 Nov

With Thanksgiving on the horizon, I’m beginning to realize that fall is coming to a close. However, there are still a few short weeks that we can enjoy all that fall has to offer. One of my favorite things about fall is pumpkin beer. It goes down smooth and has a sweet taste with a tangy after-taste. It goes perfectly with cheese (think, Gruyere) and is better enjoyed while curled up on the couch, especially with some sweetly scented candles burning in the background. I’m not that familiar with types of pumpkin beer, but I’ve included a few that I like. With only 29 days to Winter you better drink it while it’s hot….err, cold.

Beer #1 – Williamsburg Alewerks, Pumpkin Ale (bought at Whole Foods, and what I am drinking at this moment!)

Beer #2 –  Dogfish Head Craft Brewed, Punkin’ Ale   (I love Dogfish Head Brewery – stop by in Rehoboth Beach, DE)

Beer #3 – Blue Moon, Harvest Pumpkin Ale
